She was a theater student in the theater department at Northwestern University and graduated with an honors degree in the year 1990. The fall of 1988 was the time when Gunn spent a semester abroad to take classes at the British American Drama Academy. Pamela Adlon and Gunn shared an apartment in Laurel Canyon following their move there. Gunn was well known for her role as Skyler in AMC's Breaking drama. In 2013 and 2014, she won her the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding supporting Female Actress in a Drama Series. In August of 2013, her Op editorial for The New York Times examined the public's hatred towards her character.
