Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget in addition to the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively along with President Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
