JoyceDeWitt first performed on stage at the age of 13 years old. DeWitt was a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor's degree in Arts. In the summer of her stock production she was enticed by director John Toth to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed she did not meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her part in the series Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 as Janet Wood. This was an opportunity she was offered after being selected for the pilot episode that followed. Janet was also featured in an episode of the show The Ropers in which she starred in the year 1979. DeWitt was the final actor to be featured in the show's 1984 finale. Then, she appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Following that she stopped acting for a number of years. In June of 1991, she resumed acting by performing in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Also, she appeared in the film Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain featured the character inspired by her voice, which was performed by a different actress in 1997. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and also made an appearance in Living Single's final episode. She's appeared on television shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
